Black-tailed Trainbearers frequent gardens and human habitation at higher altitudes, and often seen around Quito.
This one perched briefly at an orange Chuquiragua shrub, a favorite hummingbird food source above treeline. Despite being fairly common, we all had trouble getting a shot of this bird staying still.
Sadly, this hummingbird was eaten by the lodge cat, as one of our group came across the cat swallowing it -- whole -- tail and all! (We didn't stay long enough to find out how the cat, Capulina, felt later.)
